Post Operations
While VFW Canteens are to remain closed, Posts that have kitchens in operation can open so long as the guidelines in Governor’s order are followed. We are in full compliance with the guidelines and due to the fact we have some very dedicated members we are fully operational. The members who are volunteering to man the kitchen until we get a full time cook deserve recognition- Sam Donaldson, Nick Petty, Jason Meador, Steve Wolf. Thank you and everyone who is helping out.
Come down and enjoy a meal. Bring your friends and family.  The food is excellent (just look at the fish sandwich below). Takeout is also available.
Memorial Day Service and Post breakfast
The Post will be holding its first annual Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony at the Columbia County Military Memorial behind the County Library in Evans on Monday 5/25 at 11:00AM. Please join in remembering the fallen. Friends and Family are encouraged to attend. We have have a Bugler who will play Taps. If you have never heard it live, it’s quite powerful.
There will be a breakfast at the Post from 8:00AM to 10:00AM before the ceremony. The cost to attend will be $1 per person, pay at the door. The menu will be eggs, bacon, and pancakes. I need a headcount to know how much food to buy. Email me to let me know.
I will be busy that morning, I need a couple of volunteers to help cook and serve. Let me know if you can help.
If you know of a Service Member who died in the defense of this Nation, I would like to recognize them during our ceremony.  Please send me the following information, as best as you know. I need this information by Saturday.
Name
Service Branch
Rank
Hometown
Dates of service
Date and location of death if known
Age upon death
Any helpful background information
Service Officer Hours
Starting this Wednesday, the Post will begin regular Post Service Officer hours from 1:00PM to 4:00PM every Wednesday. If you need help with something, come in and meet with the Service Officer. We are here for each other.
Auxiliary Update
The Auxiliary launch meeting last Wednesday was a big success. We are just a few short of having the required number to petition for the Auxiliary to be established. If you have a family member who is interested in joining, the next Auxiliary meeting is Wednesday June 10, 2020 at 6:30PM. No good Post exists without an Auxiliary, let’s get ours in place.
Post Meeting Reminder
The next Post meeting is tomorrow Tuesday 5/19 at 6:30PM at the Post Home. It will be outside and social distancing will be enforced.
New Extension Underway
The Post is growing, literally. Construction has begun on the next phase of the Post Home. When this is complete the footprint of the Post will be almost double. I’ve attached a photo for you to see.
Steak Night and Trivia reminders
The next steak night is this coming Saturday 5/23 from 5:00 to 8:00. Tickets are on sale at the Post and are selling quickly. You need to order by Thursday if you want a steak so we have time to order the meat.
Last Thursday’s Trivia night was a great time. You are welcome to bring your friends and family. The kitchen will be serving the full menu. The game begins every Thursday at 6:30. No cost to play. This week’s category is Pop Culture.
Everyone continue to stay safe. I hope to see you soon.
V/R,
Matt Andrews

This is a VFW National Competition for those who have achieved the highest rank in the various Scouting programs and has a $5,000 prize. The deadline for entries to the Post are March 1st. There is a bit of work that needs to be done to enter but the types of young men and women this award applies to should be able to handle it.
